Richmond Park Academy (RPA) is part of Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) group and is situated in East Sheen, close to Richmond Park which is the largest of the capital’s eight Royal Parks and the biggest enclosed space in London. Richmond, Kingston and the West End are all between 15 and 30 minutes journey from the school and our proximity to central London means that students can benefit enormously from the vast range of social, cultural, sporting and academic opportunities that we are able to access.

Richmond Park Academy is seeking to appoint a dynamic, highly motivated and ambitious practitioner who has the drive, energy and capacity to become an outstanding leader.

You will be a talented teacher with a proven track record of securing successful student outcomes across all key stages. The Director will possess the key leadership qualities necessary to line manage the teachers of Mathematics and will be part of the schools extended leadership team.

You will have the experience of improving teaching and learning and the ability to embed different approaches to mathematics within the curriculum

The successful candidate will benefit from a reduced teaching load in order to focus on raising standards through the development of teaching and learning within the Mathematics Faculty. You will be an outstanding teacher with the drive and capacity to make a significant difference, with the ambition for senior leadership.

You will be inspirational and forward thinking and have the ability to work closely with NQT’s as well as Senior Leadership Team. For an exceptional candidate we are offering a salary within the leadership band.

Our mathematics department is part of the AET Mathematics community, a family of mathematics teachers and leaders from 66 academies across primary, secondary and special education.

The candidate will be eligible to be part of the AET Subject Leaders Programme, and will benefit from a range of wonderful opportunities to enrich their teaching and leadership role, including:

  • Membership of the AET national mathematics teacher network including national conferences and three regional meetings each year
  • Personal support and coaching from the AET mathematics regional leader
  • Visits to other Mathematics Departments within our community to observe and share best practice as well as to coach and develop colleagues
  • Invitation to be a member of the national AET Mathematics Innovation Team to work on international and national mathematics projects.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with academies within our cluster on joint projects such as Numeracy across the Curriculum, Academy-to-Academy Competitions using video technology and Curriculum Development
  • Free access to a range of national training opportunities from the central AET Mathematics team delivered by colleagues such as the author of Method Maths and Mr Barton Maths.

Last year results in Mathematics saw an improvement of 11% but there is more work to do to ensure all our students are successful in this key subject area.

Our children need excellent mathematics teachers who can inspire them to love mathematics, to develop the skills and attributes of mathematicians and to achieve their best; our teachers need a leader who can support and challenge them to make this a reality for all children.

Our student body is diverse, exciting and talented – and the same is true of our staff. We put huge emphasis on professional development, most of it in-house, and are proud of the high number of good and outstanding teachers who work in our school. We are also noted for our ‘can do’ attitude. We are keen, always, to encourage new and/or young staff to make their mark as soon as they are ready.

The school completed a £10m rebuild and refurbishment programme, including the introduction of a 6th form in 2014. Our 2012 Ofsted reported that we were a ‘good’ school in all categories. The inspector wrote: “Leaders and managers share a commitment to drive up standards, provide a broad and sturdy foundation for students’ future well-being and establish the academy as the school of choice within its locality”.
